Use Add Page Numbers to PDF

Your file is processed on your device and never sent to a server.

How to use Add Page Numbers to PDF

  1. Choose or drag one PDF file.

  2. Choose the position, format (for example Page 1 of 10), starting number and font size. The preview shows where the number goes.

  3. Decide which pages are numbered, for example skipping the first page, then press Add page numbers.

Skipping the cover and starting from a specific number

In a report or proposal, the cover is usually not numbered. Choose Skip the first page so the second page becomes number 1. If this PDF continues another document, change Start at number, for example to 15, so the numbering carries on.

The number goes up by 1 for each numbered page. In formats that include a total, such as 3 of 10, the total follows the last number printed.

Fitting in with the page content

The distance from the edge can be adjusted so the number doesn’t collide with existing content or a footer. The number is drawn on top of the page and follows the display direction, so it stays upright on rotated pages. The number color is black or gray.

Questions about Add Page Numbers to PDF

Can the numbers go on only some pages?

Yes. Choose Range and type the pages you want, for example 3-10. The first number in that range uses the starting number you chose.

What if the PDF already has page numbers?

The new numbers are added on top of the existing content and do not remove the old ones. Choose a different position or distance so they don’t overlap.

Are Roman numerals or letters possible?

Not yet. The available formats are plain numbers in a few styles: 1, Page 1, 1 / 10, Page 1 of 10 and - 1 -.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so documents such as contracts, diplomas or payslips never leave your device. You can test it yourself: open the tool page, wait a moment, disconnect from the internet, then choose a PDF. With an ordinary PDF, the tool keeps working.

What about password-protected PDFs?

Password-protected PDFs can’t be processed with this tool yet, and it will tell you if you choose one. Unlock the file first with the Unlock PDF tool on Tipamedia (you need the correct password), then try again.

What is the maximum PDF size?

100 MB per file. This limit keeps the browser, especially on phones, from running out of memory. Files that large can feel slow; if it stalls, close other tabs or try a computer.
