Use What Is My IP

Your public IP address

Your IP address is fetched from the ipify.org service only when you press the button.

How to use What Is My IP

  1. Click “Show my IP”. The tool fetches your public IP from an outside service.

  2. Read the IP address and its type (IPv4 or IPv6), then copy it if needed.

  3. Check the browser and device information below it, which is read directly from your device.

Public IP and local IP

A public IP is your network’s address on the internet, shared by every device at home or in the office that uses the same connection. A local IP (for example 192.168.x.x) only applies inside that network and is not shown here. If you use a VPN or proxy, what appears is the VPN’s IP, which is a simple way to check whether your VPN is working.

Privacy

A browser can’t know your own public IP, so this tool has to ask a third-party service (ipify.org) to tell it, and that service naturally sees your IP. The request is sent only when you press the button. Browser and screen information is read locally and sent nowhere. This tool does not show an estimated location or the name of your internet provider.

Questions about What Is My IP

What is an IP address?

An identifying number for a device or network on the internet, like a home address so data knows where to go. IPv4 is four numbers (203.0.113.7); IPv6 is longer and uses letters and colons.

Why does my IP keep changing?

Many internet providers assign dynamic IPs that can change when the router restarts or when you switch networks, for example from WiFi to mobile data.

Why is there no location or ISP name?

To protect privacy and keep third parties to a minimum, this tool shows only the IP address. Location estimates from an IP are often inaccurate anyway.

Is it safe to share my public IP?

A public IP isn’t enough to hack your device, but it can reveal an approximate region and your internet provider. Avoid sharing it publicly without a reason.

Why can the IP request fail?

Usually because there is no internet connection, or an ad or tracker blocker is blocking the IP-checking service. Try turning the blocker off for this page.
