How to use Password Generator

  1. Set the password length with the slider (we recommend at least 16 characters).

  2. Choose the character types: uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols. Turn on the option to avoid look-alike characters such as 0 and O if you need it.

  3. Click “Regenerate” until you are happy with the result, then copy it and save it in a password manager.

What makes a password strong

Length matters more than complexity: 16 random characters are far harder to guess than 8 characters full of symbols. Use a different password for every account, store them in a password manager, and turn on two-step verification for important accounts.

About randomness and entropy

This tool uses the browser’s crypto.getRandomValues, not Math.random, which was never designed for security. Strength is shown in bits of entropy: length × log₂(number of possible characters). Above 80 bits is already strong for most accounts, and above 100 bits is very strong.

Questions about Password Generator

How long should a password be?

At least 12 characters, and 16 or more for important accounts such as email and banking. Because it is stored in a password manager, you don’t need to memorize it.

Is it safe to generate a password on a website?

Yes, as long as the password is created on your device and never sent anywhere. This tool runs in your browser and does not send the result to our servers.

What is entropy?

A measure of how hard a password is to guess, expressed in bits. Every extra bit doubles the number of possibilities an attacker has to try.

Are symbols required?

No. Symbols add variety, but adding length has a bigger effect. Some sites reject certain symbols; in that case, turn symbols off and make the password longer.

Should passwords be changed regularly?

Not necessarily, unless you suspect an account or service has been breached. NIST SP 800-63B no longer recommends mandatory periodic changes.
