Double spaces and trailing spaces usually come from typing or from copied tables. Extra blank lines come from emails and Word documents. Duplicate lines are common in keyword lists, email lists, or exported data merged from several sources.
HTML tags get copied along when you take text from a web page or an editor; the remove-HTML-tags option leaves only the text.
A PDF stores each visual line as its own line, so sentences break in the middle when you copy them. Turn on “Join lines within a paragraph”: lines inside one paragraph are joined with spaces, while the breaks between paragraphs (blank lines) are kept.
Remove blank lines deletes every blank line, so the text becomes tight. Limiting consecutive blank lines only turns several blank lines in a row into one, so the breaks between paragraphs stay.
Two lines count as the same if their content is identical once spaces at the ends are trimmed. The first line is kept and later occurrences are removed, so the original order does not change.
Tags such as <p> and <b> are removed, along with HTML comments, and common entities such as & are turned back into the original characters. This tool is for tidying text, not for sanitizing HTML for security.
