Use OCR Image to Text

Images are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

How to use OCR Image to Text

  1. Choose or drag an image that contains text (JPG, PNG or WebP).

  2. Choose the language (Indonesian, English or both) and the layout. Turn on contrast improvement if the photo is faded or dark.

  3. Press Read text. Correct the result in the text box if needed, then copy it or download it as a .txt file.

How it works and its limits

This tool uses Tesseract, an open-source OCR engine that runs as WebAssembly in your browser. The first time you use it, the engine and language data (about 4–8 MB) are downloaded and stored by the browser, so later use is fast and can work without internet.

OCR is designed for printed text. Handwriting, decorative fonts and curved text usually do not read well. The languages available right now are only Indonesian and English.

Tips for accurate results

Photograph documents from above and straight on, with even light and no shadows. The text should be large enough: lowercase letters about 20 pixels tall or more. The tool enlarges small images and shrinks huge ones automatically.

For receipts or labels with text in many places, choose the Sparse text layout. For a single paragraph, choose Single text block. If the photo is faded, turn on automatic contrast improvement.

Scanned PDFs

This tool reads images. For a scanned PDF, first turn its pages into images with PDF to Image, then run OCR on the page images you need.

Questions about OCR Image to Text

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. The OCR engine runs in your browser. The only things downloaded are the engine and language data from this site, and your image is not sent out.

Why are some letters wrong in the result?

OCR reads letter shapes, not meaning, so look-alike characters (O and 0, l and 1) or small, blurry text can be misread. A straighter, brighter, sharper photo improves the result. Always check important figures such as amounts and numbers.

Can it read handwriting?

Not reliably. This engine is for printed text. Handwriting usually produces text with many mistakes.

Can it be used without internet?

Yes, once the engine and language data have been downloaded and stored in your browser. Open this page and choose an image so the download runs, and the tool keeps working even if the connection drops.

Why is the first run slower?

The first time, the browser downloads the OCR engine and language data. Once stored, a run only takes the time to read the image, usually a few seconds depending on the image size and your device.
