JPG is the usual choice for photos and is accepted almost everywhere, but it does not support a transparent background and its quality drops each time it is re-saved. PNG keeps detail and transparency without losing quality, so it suits logos, screenshots and graphics, but its files are large for photos. WebP offers better compression for both and is supported by all modern browsers.
Converting a transparent PNG to JPG turns the transparent areas white. Converting JPG to PNG does not bring back quality that is already lost, and usually makes the file larger.
Choose the PNG image, pick JPG as the target format, then download. Transparent areas will turn white because JPG does not support transparency.
Converting JPG to PNG stores every pixel without lossy compression, so the size grows. For photos, choose JPG or WebP.
