Use Favicon Generator

How to use Favicon Generator

  1. Choose a logo (PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG; ideally square and at least 512×512 px).

  2. Set the logo placement, padding, corner radius and background. Check the 16, 32, 48 and 180 px previews.

  3. Fill in the site name and theme color, then download the ZIP package and paste its HTML code into <head>.

Which sizes are created

favicon.ico holds 16, 32 and 48 px images for browser tabs and bookmarks. apple-touch-icon.png (180 px) is used by iPhone and iPad when the site is added to the home screen; iOS does not accept a transparent background, so this tool always gives it one. android-chrome-192x192 and 512x512 are used by the manifest for Android and PWAs, plus one 512 px maskable icon with a safe zone so it isn’t cut off by each device’s icon shape.

A site.webmanifest file and ready-to-paste <link> lines are created too. Put all the files in the site root or in the folder you enter in the path field, then paste the code into <head>.

Tips for keeping the icon readable

A 16 px icon is tiny: use a simple logo with little detail, avoid long text, and choose contrasting colors. Use the Fit inside mode with a little padding for wide logos, or Fill for square logos. SVG is sharpest at every size.

Browsers keep favicons in cache for quite a long time, so a change may need a hard reload. Google Search updates the favicon in search results a few days to a few weeks after the home page is crawled, and does not guarantee showing it.

Questions about Favicon Generator

What is the right favicon size?

Google requires a square favicon of at least 8×8 px and recommends one larger than 48×48 px. Browser tabs use 16–32 px, and iOS uses 180×180 px. This package contains all of them, so you don’t need to choose one by one.

What is the difference between favicon.ico and PNG?

ICO is the older format that browsers look for automatically at /favicon.ico, and it can hold several sizes in one file. PNG is more modern and is referenced through a <link> tag. Installing both is the safest.

What is a maskable icon?

An Android/PWA icon whose main artwork sits in the central safe zone, so it stays intact even when the system crops it into a circle, a rounded square or another shape.

Is my logo uploaded to a server?

No. The image is processed in your browser and the ZIP is made on your own device.

Why hasn’t my favicon changed?

Browsers and search engines keep the old favicon in cache. Do a hard reload (Ctrl+Shift+R), open the page in a private window, or wait; also make sure the file name and the path in <head> are correct.
