How to use CSV to JSON and JSON to CSV

  1. Choose the direction: CSV to JSON or JSON to CSV, then paste text or choose a file.

  2. Set the options: delimiter, header row, data type detection and output format.

  3. Copy the result or download it as a .json or .csv file.

How to read CSV correctly

The parser follows RFC 4180: a field that contains the delimiter, quotes or line breaks is wrapped in double quotes, and quotes inside it are written twice (""). The delimiter is detected from comma, semicolon (common in Excel set to Indonesian), tab or pipe. A BOM at the start of the file is removed, and blank lines are skipped.

Data type detection turns numbers, true/false and null into their JSON types. Values with a leading zero, such as the postal code 05123, and numbers too long for computer precision (18-digit numbers) are deliberately left as text so they don’t change silently.

JSON to CSV and spreadsheet safety

An array of objects becomes a table whose columns are the union of all keys; nested values are written as JSON inside the cell. The formula-injection protection option prefixes cells that start with =, +, - or @ with an apostrophe, so Excel or Google Sheets do not run them as formulas when a file from an untrusted source is opened.

Questions about CSV to JSON and JSON to CSV

How do I convert CSV to JSON?

Paste the CSV, make sure the first row holds the column names, then copy the resulting JSON. Each row becomes one object with the column names as its keys.

Why is my CSV from Excel read as a single column?

Excel set to Indonesian often uses a semicolon as the separator. This tool detects it automatically; if it still gets it wrong, choose the delimiter manually.

How are fields that contain commas handled?

As long as the field is wrapped in double quotes, such as "Portland, Oregon", the comma inside is read as part of the text, not as a delimiter.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. The file is read and processed in your browser. The size limit is 10 MB to keep the page running smoothly.

Why didn’t my long number become a number?

Numbers longer than 15–16 digits can’t be stored exactly as JSON numbers in JavaScript, so they are left as text to keep the digits unchanged.
