Paste a list of URLs to create sitemap.xml.

Google ignores changefreq and priority, and uses lastmod only if it is consistent and correct. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use Sitemap.xml Generator

  1. Enter your site address (optional), then paste the URLs, one per line. A lastmod date can be written after a space.

  2. Check the skipped lines and warnings; set lastmod for all URLs only if it is accurate.

  3. Download sitemap.xml, upload it to the root of your site, and add the Sitemap line to robots.txt or submit it through Search Console.

Sitemap rules it follows

A single sitemap file is limited to 50,000 URLs or 50 MB uncompressed. This tool splits it automatically into sitemap-1.xml, sitemap-2.xml and so on, plus a sitemap-index.xml that points to all of them. URLs must be absolute, files must be UTF-8 encoded, and special characters (&, <, >, quotes) are escaped as XML entities. Fragments (#section) are removed because they are not part of the crawled URL, and duplicates are merged.

A sitemap should sit at the root of your site so it covers all paths, and it may only contain URLs from one host.

lastmod, changefreq and priority

According to Google’s documentation, changefreq and priority are ignored, so this tool leaves them out by default. Use lastmod only if it is consistent and truly reflects the last significant update to the page; filling it with today’s date for every URL can make Google ignore the signal altogether.

Questions about Sitemap.xml Generator

What is sitemap.xml for?

It helps search engines find pages, especially new ones, rarely linked ones, or pages on a large site. A sitemap does not guarantee that a page will be indexed.

How do I submit a sitemap to Google?

Upload it to your site, then add a Sitemap line to robots.txt or submit its address in Google Search Console under Sitemaps.

What is the maximum number of URLs in one sitemap?

50,000 URLs or 50 MB uncompressed. Above that, split it into several sitemaps and tie them together with an index file; this tool does that automatically.

Do I need to fill in priority and changefreq?

No. Google ignores both. Fill in lastmod only if it is accurate.

Are my URLs sent to a server?

No. The sitemap is built in your browser.
